Outsourced airport safety????

We were leaving Greece to go to the UK and the flight was delayed. It was really boring sitting there for hours so we were looking around on the other travellers. Suddenly we saw something really strange...we were sitting close to the x-ray of the hand luggage and the staff looking at the x-ray screen. There were two men with civilian clothes checking the hand luggage content on the screen. Normally it is the custom/police who makes this kind of checks. A man in uniform approached them and asked is everything alright? After a while the two men called for the man in the uniform and said: - So long it is time for our flight now. Bye bye! The real custom were now checking the luggage again! Who were these civilians? Did the officer take a brake? Was this a charade? Did they really check the luggage? Or did they cover up for the officer? Do we dare to fly? Many questions...no answers...anyway no bomb exploded and we landed safely back in the UK.
